FSMA Food Traceability

The CGA Educational Foundation hosted a webinar to help grocers prepare for the FDA’s enforcement deadline for the FSMA 204 Food Traceability Rule, which was originally slated to take effect in January 2026. On March 20, 2025, the day following the webinar, the FDA granted the nation’s food and grocery industry an additional 30 months to comply. View the above member alert for more information on the delay.

It’s important for the industry to use the FDA’s delay to continue preparing for compliance. The CGAEF webinar provided an overview of the following to help grocers prepare for enforcement:

  • Why the timeline for traceability is even shorter now
  • How, when, and where to share traceability data to meet the FDA’s FSMA 204 requirements
  • Anticipated expansion of the Food Traceability List, and what major retailers and wholesalers are doing to prepare.
