Davis Environmentally Acceptable Food Packaging Ordinance

Ban on polystyrene food containers, requirement that all takeout food packaging be recyclable or compostable. Effective June 15, 2017.

Details of regulation: Food providers shall not provide prepared food in any disposable food service ware that contains or utilizes polystyrene foam. All disposable food service ware used by food providers shall be reusable and/or recyclable and compostable. Disposable food service ware that contains polystyrene foam is prohibited from use in all City facilities. City contractors in the performance of City contracts and special events promoters may not provide prepared food in disposable food service ware that contain polystyrene foam.

Details of regulation: Restaurants shall ask each Dine-In Customer if the customer wants a Single-Use Beverage Straw before providing a Single Use Beverage Straw to the customer. Fast Food Service and Take-Out Food Orders are exempt from this ordinance.
