Seaside Environmentally Preferable Food Packaging

Polystyrene ban with requirement that all plastic takeout food packaging be recyclable or compostable.

Details of regulation: Food providers within the City may not provide prepared food in any disposable food service ware that contains polystyrene foam. Disposable food service ware that contains polystyrene foam is prohibited from use in all City facilities. City contractors in the performance of City contracts and special events promoters may not provide prepared food in disposable food service ware that contains polystyrene foam. Additionally, a policy goal is established for the City to promote and encourage the elimination of all polystyrene foam packaging. Exemptions include undue hardship and foods prepared or packaged outside the City.
