Expand Food Access in California

Urge Your Legislators to SUPPORT The Food Desert Elimination Act

According to 2022 USDA data, 10.5% of California households (4.1 million households or 11.8 million residents) reside in a food desert, yet California does not currently have a financing mechanism to help grocery stores build or expand offerings in food insecure areas.

The Solution

CGA has partnered with Sen. Susan Rubio to introduce the California Equitable Food Source Act, SB 1419, which seeks to provide financial assistance to grocery stores operators who wish to establish a store within a delineated food desert or areas at risk of becoming food deserts.
