California Bill Signing Deadline

View from the California Capitol Building, Sacramento looking unto Lincoln Highway.

In his final September bill-signing period as Governor, Newsom acts on legislation relating to cold storage warehouses, penny rounding, restrictive covenants, and ultra processed foods.

September 30 was the last day for Gov. Gavin Newsom to sign or veto legislation. In a year where the California State Legislature sent nearly 1,200 bills to the Governor, the past several days saw hundreds of bills impacting the industry become law. Overall, Governor Newsom’s veto rate sagged below its historical levels to around 10%, though there were some notable vetoes in favor of the grocery industry in the past handful of days.

A full listing of grocery-related bills that were signed or vetoed in September is available to CGA members on the State Advocacy page.
