San Luis Obispo Polystyrene Food Containers And Products

Expanded polystyrene food container ban, adopted June 2015. Includes ban on retail sale of foam products.

Details of regulation: Food providers within the City of San Luis Obispo may not provide prepared food in or provide separately any disposable food container made from expanded polystyrene. Disposable food containers made from expanded polystyrene are prohibited from use in all City facilities. City contractors in the performance of City contracts and events may not provide prepared food in disposable food containers made from expanded polystyrene. Exemptions included undue hardships, emergency situations, specific construction products, raw meat trays, products made from expanded polystyrene which are wholly encapsulated or encased by a more durable material, and foods prepared or packaged outside the City.

Details of regulation: Any vendor shall ask each dine-in customer if the customer wants a single-use beverage straw before providing a single-use beverage straw to the customer.
