Medocino County Disposable Food Ware

Expanded polystyrene food container ban adopted July 22, 2014.

Details of regulation: In 2014 Medocino passed Ordinance No. 4328 which stipulated Retail Food Establishments and Food Providers may not sell, hand out, give away, distribute, or otherwise make available for public or customer use Prepared Food in Disposable Food Service Ware that contains Polystyrene Foam.

County Facility Food Providers may not provide Prepared Foods in Disposable Food Service Ware that contains Polystyrene Foam. County Departments may not purchase, acquire, or use Disposable Food Service Ware that contains Polystyrene Foam.

County Contractors and Lessees may not use Disposable Food Service Ware that contains Polystyrene Foam in County facilities and while performing under a County contract or lease.

They did provide for a “Hardship Waiver” that any person may apply for. The waiver would be valid for one year and the applicant must prove undue hardship posed by the regulation.
