Doing Business in California
With more than 300 retail grocery members operating thousands of stores across California, the mission of the California Grocers Association is to serve, represent and educate our members on both state and local levels.
By looking out for your business needs and interests, the California Grocers Association allows you to focus on what you do best: running a successful operation. Whether you operate a single store or a regional chain, you will benefit by joining CGA.
Here’s what CGA membership offers:
Government Relations Support
Last year, the California state legislature proposed more than 4,000 pieces of legislation and a many of them impacted the grocery industry in some way. Transportation or employment laws, food processing, handling and packaging, alcohol and tobacco regulations and legislation regarding paper and plastic bags to name a few.
All of these bills and regulations can have a material impact on your company’s bottom line. By being a member of CGA, you can join your industry peers to help advocate for your business interests.
CGA not only works on behalf of its members at the state level. CGA’s local government relations team responds to local proposed ordinances as well. No other state association (grocery or retail) offers comprehensive coverage of the important issues like CGA.
Essential Industry Communications
Frequent CGA communications keep members well-informed and up-to-date on essential aspects of the California grocery industry. Members can follow the latest legislative and regulatory developments, market trends, emerging issues and new innovations through:

CGA also helps you prepare for emergency situations by providing the CGAEF Emergency Operations Plan and Standard Operating Procedures Manual, a 200-plus page, comprehensive emergency preparedness guide that readies grocers for unexpected events.
Employee Educational Support
CGA member companies gain access to the CGA Educational Foundation’s College Scholarships and Career Development Tuition Reimbursement programs that provide employees with assistance on the cost of tuition and other educational expenses.

CGA offers “member-only” employers dental and vision insurance products at competitive rates, including a premier PPO and HMO plan through Delta Dental, the largest dental provider in the nation. The vision plan is administered through Vision Service Plan (VSP).
