C. H. Guenther & Son, Inc. Announces Amended Voluntary Nationwide Recall of several additional products that contain pepper due to Possible Health Risk

C. H. Guenther & Son, Inc. announced a voluntary recall of additional products containing a pepper ingredient that may have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The following products are in addition to products announced earlier in press releases dated 3/17/200 and 3/22/2010.

The products are:
  • Best Yet Season 'n Bake Chicken, 1.37 oz, UPC -  0 42187 41168 2, Code Date - W0006O
  • Food Club Beef Stew, 1.5 oz, UPC - 0 36800 30956 2, Code Date - W0021E,  W9309C
  • Tops Pork Gravy1 oz, UPC - 0 88267 07935 9, Code Date - W9327B, W9328B
  • Piggly Wiggly Season 'n Bake Chicken, 1.37 oz, UPC - 0 41290 41533 4, Code Date - W9338O
The code dates are printed on the side of master cases and embossed on the side seals of individual packages.

The recalled products contain black pepper distributed by Mincing Overseas Spice Company. The pepper has been recalled by Mincing because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Salmonella is a common food borne pathogen that can cause severe illnesses, including fever, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. While most individuals recover in three to five days without medical intervention, the infection can be life-threatening to young children, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems. Consumers with any of these symptoms should call their physician. For more information on Salmonella, please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Web site at http://www.cdc.gov.

To date, C.H. Guenther & Son, Co. has not received any reports of illness associated with these products, but proceed to the FDA web-site (www.fda.gov) for updated information.

Consumers who would like a refund or replacement product should return the unopened package to the store where they purchased the product.
