Frequently Asked Questions
Who is eligible to apply for the CGAEF Scholarships?
A high school senior, college freshman, sophomore or junior who is:
- A full-time student employed by a CGA member company for at least one year as of January 1, 2009 or
- A full-time student whose parent has been an employee of a CGA member company for at least one year as of January 1, 2009.
Are there any other types of scholarships?
Yes, there are a number of awards which are member funded, and have specific eligibility requirements. By completing one application, you will be considered for all scholarships for which you are eligible, but may receive only one.
What are the criteria for the selection of recipients?
The selection criteria includes past and current academic performance, leadership and participation in school and community activities. College grades are also considered if the applicant is a college student.
How will scholarships be awarded?
- The awards are one-time, non-renewable grants. The amount may vary depending on the scholarship awarded.
- Checks will be mailed to each recipient's home address and will be made payable to the college or university the recipient is attending.
- Scholarship recipients are responsible for delivering their scholarship check to their colleges.
- Awards are for full-time students only and can be used only in the academic year for which they are awarded barring illness, emergency or military service.
What is the scholarship timeline?
A new competition is announced and applications distributed after January 1 of each year. All applications must be postmarked by April 1. Applicants should be notified of the selection committee's decision in June.
What information will I need for my online application?
You will need your Social Security Number and other personal demographics, your employer information (member name, business address, hire date, etc) along with the college you plan to attend in the fall. Your ACT and/or SAT scores (if you have taken them) and your high school class rank are requested. A high school record is a required document for all applicants in order for an application to be considered complete. If you are a college student, you will also be required to submit your college transcript.
If your parent is the eligible employee, you will also be asked to provide information about your parent/legal guardian's employer's name and employment eligibility. You will need your parent/legal guardian's full name, Social Security Number and/or employer ID#, their hire date, the name of the company where your eligible parent works, the company address or location, and the company's telephone number.
If I have applied before, do I need to send another high school record and college transcript?
If you were a recipient in the previous year, your high school records are on file and we can retrieve them. If you were not a recipient, your application has been destroyed and new records are necessary. A CURRENT college transcript is needed from all applicants. (An official transcript is not necessary.)
If I'm already in college, why do I need a high school record?
A high school record makes you more competitive. You will be competing with high school students with records. Your high school record has standardized test scores which show your ability, and whether you are working to your potential in college.
How can I check to see if my application has been received?
To check your scholarship application status online and to make changes, you can return to aim.applyists.net and log into your account using the email address provided on your application. Be sure to allow two weeks after submitting all of the information for processing.
