Includes a ban on the retail sale of packing materials, coolers, pool/beach toys, buoys, and other items made from expanded polystyrene. Title 9.24 of Municipal Code.
Details of regulation: Prohibits the sale, offer for sale, and distribution of food service ware that is not either compostable or recyclable or is in whole or in part from polystyrene foam. Food Vendors, City facility food providers, City departments, and City contractors/lessees are prohibited from using or providing food service ware that is not compostable or recyclable or in part from polystyrene foam. No person may sell, offer for sale, or otherwise distribute within the City of Malibu packing materials (including shipping boxes and packing peanuts), coolers/ice chests, pool and beach toys, or dock floats that are made in whole or in part from polystyrene foam. None of these polystyrene foam products shall be allowed on any beach within the city. Exemptions include undue hardships.
